WOW! It was such a fantastic day today (actually all week) here in south central Wisconsin, that I just had to get out and ride. So, this afternoon, I did one of those, "let's see where the road leads me" rides. I ended up going more than 100 miles, and finding fun curvy roads to boot. Machines were out harvesting, the Fall colors are showing, and the sun was shining. The only thing that would have been better is if my wife could have been there riding with me.

Here's a bit of what I encountered, giving a bit of an idea of what the road and countryside was like:

A combine was harvesting soybeans to the left:

I first went and hung around State Street in Madison for about an hour, and there had been a parade of sorts. Some guy had some interesting contraptions made from bicycles there.

Here are a couple:

This one is not the best, but it had either roller skate wheels or skateboard wheels in the front.

I didn't see this one in operation other than when the boy was riding it away. It looks like it's made to do perpetual wheelies, but also if you look, the handlebars have extensions on them that criss-cross. I would think that would be a bit awkward at first.

All in all, it was a fantastic day!

Sounds like the IL Gestapo. It's like having to get a FOID card to even touch a handgun in a store. My wife and I each got the FOID cards, then moved to MI. You don't need any sort of card there, but have to get a registration from the local PD to buy one.

I never heard that about the tower. It's too bad, but with such a litigious society, what are you going to do? Someone probably being stupid, no doubt.

The trailer has been nothing short of a pain in the arse, thanks to Illinois. Iowa and Wisconsin don't require titles and VIN's for trailers with GVWR of 2000 pounds or less. Not IL, tho! Now I have to treat the trailer as being homemade - send pics to the DMV, fill out a 3 page form and then wait to get it inspected. After that, they assign a VIN to it and title it. Just to make it as hard on them as it has been on me, I'm going to wait until the snow flies before I have them inspect it.

Tower is still closed. They aren't doing repairs. They chopped the entire bottom section of steps out so you can't climb it. I guess somebody fell off and was killed.

Well, 2hand, you probably won't want to be on the cycle much this weekend, anyway. It's supposed to rain. I'm jealous, though, that you have a motorcycle trailer. I need one to transport my bike home to the U.P. when I'm ready to put it away for the winter. I think it's just too heavy to try and transport in my little S-10 pickup.

So, is the tower outside of Galena open again? Last time I drove over there (I think it was Memorial Day 2008 on my Vulcan 750), it was closed. Maybe they were just doing repairs to it.

Also, we went back home to Iowa last weekend to pick up our motorcycle trailer. Nothing short of awesome on the drive from here to Galena! Pointed out the scenery to the 5yo grandson. His responses were "Whoa!" and "Awesome!" Soon as we got into Iowa, it was like driving into the Kansas Dust Bowl! Land is really dry and the farmers were busy in the fields kicking up clouds of dust.

Wisconsin has some great roads, Kerry. Wife and I head up there a lot. Love the "Rustic Roads" that dot the state. We're heading up to West Bend this weekend to visit an old friend and take our Autumn drive. Hopefully all the leaves won't be down after the wind we had last night. Won't be taking the bikes, tho - grandson is going with us.

Well, I hadn't meant for two posts of essentially the same thing to get on here. It took so long for them to get approved that I thought the first one (this one) got lost in cyberspace, so I submitted another. Oh well, if there's enough backlash I'll delete this one.
